Sabrina Sveiven, better known as “Beans” by her teammates and friends, is a senior on the girl’s volleyball team. Sveiven has played Hart volleyball all four years of high school and began her volleyball career at the age of 9.

Sveiven has become a key asset of Hart’s varsity team. During her time at Hart, she played one year on the junior varsity team and three years in the varsity team. She was even awarded coaches award her freshman year and junior year.

“Junior year I was lucky enough to make California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) second team,” said Sveiven.

Sveiven usually plays libero and sometimes even defensive specialist. Not only is she a member of the girl’s volleyball team here at Hart, she also enjoys playing for her club team Legacy Volleyball Club. Sveiven is also a great team player and looked at as a team leader on and off the court.

“Beans is always so uplifting and encourages everyone to play their best. She is always there to hype up the team up before games and make sure we are ready to kill it,” said teammate Helena Wild.

Although she has enjoyed all her time at Hart High, her favorite memory has been beating Valencia her sophomore year.

“It was really cool because it was our first win in their gym in 13 years,” said Sveiven.

Even though this year’s season will be in January as opposed to the fall, Sveiven has continued to push herself over quarantine. COVID-19 for many has brought many challenges for athletes but it has not stopped Sveiven.

“During COVID I’ve been playing with my sisters in my backyard or we go to a grass area and play doubles,” Sveiven said.

With the maintenance of her skills, Sveiven hopes to continue her volleyball career into college.

“I’m looking to play volleyball in college and plan on majoring in business,” Sveiven said.

Although her senior year has not been what she has expected she is hopeful to have a great year and an even better season come this winter.
