Israel moves to invade Rafah

On Monday May 6, 2024, Hamas agreed to a cease-fire proposal to try to end the 7 month long ongoing war in Israel and Palestine. However, Israel said that it doesn’t meet their demands and are still going to continue their attack against Palestine.

Israel gained control of the Rafah border crossing and is waging a full scale invasion of the city, causing lots of fear in the citizens who live in Rafah. With Israel controlling the Rafah border crossing, they also control most of the supplies and aid coming into Gaza from other countries.

The U.N. said the northern Gaza has entered a “full blown famine” from the 7 months of war and from most of the borders being controlled by Israel. With the invasion of Rafah and Israel controlling the Rafah border crossing, it’s really going to hurt the amount of supplies and food that Gaza will be able to get and it may worsen the famine. In response to Israel’s plan to invade Rafah, the Biden Administration halted a shipment of bombs to Israel as it continues to plan to invade the city of Rafah against U.S. wishes. As of the morning of May 9th, Israel says they are ready to attack and stand alone even without the support from the U.S. who are condemning the actions of attacking the southern city of Rafah. The U.S. is not going to send supplies and weapons to Israel to support the assault on the city of Rafah so they stopped all of their shipments of supplies heading to Israel as they are continuing with their assault on the city of Rafah.
