From February 10 to 12, 2023, The Hart Cheer Team attended the National High School Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, Florida. They ended up in place 11 out of 32, being the first cheer team in Hart history to make it past the second round of said competition.

They worked diligently to prepare for such an opportunity, practicing 3-4 times a week. Working in small groups allowed them to thoroughly analyze their routines and give each other constructive criticism on even the finest of details.

Everyone on the team was enthusiastic, but the seniors obtained an added sense of sentimentality as well; glancing back upon some great years.

“For me in particular, the whole journey was a feeling of nostalgia and pride for the other girls,” said Zoe Abanes, a senior on the team. “For not having a competition team since 2019, my freshman year, we weren’t sure that there was going to be one; and boom it happened.”

It’s safe to say that the team is incredibly proud of their achievements thus far and excited for the potential they hold in the future.

“I appreciated and took in every moment, every tiring practice, and every full out because we were all so grateful for this amazing experience,” said Abanes.

“Overall, we had a great competition season and are so proud of what the team accomplished. We can’t wait to get started for next year!” said Brooke Wanjon, the Hart Cheer coach.
