The Hart High School swim team has some big meets and competitions coming up, including a league match against Canyon High School and prelims for all teams. They just finished competing against Castaic March 27 and West Ranch April 9.
April 17, the Hart High School swim team will be having their last dual meet against Canyon High School. During competition, there are eight lanes used for racing and one lane is open for warming up or cooling down after the swim. Each team sets up camp on one side of the pool and canopies are everywhere. The Hart team starts off with a team cheer to get everyone excited and then they begin their races. Spectators are cheering and in a good mood the whole time, which makes it nice to participate in. Even though the cheers can’t be heard while swimming, it’s still nice to know that people are rooting for Hart to get their best times. At the end of the meet, they tell the other team “thank you for agreeing to go against us.”
At the meets, swimmers showcase several different strokes, primarily freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. One typical race is the 200 meter individual medley (or IM), which is made up of 50 yards each of all four main strokes plus a 100-yard breaststroke to finish.
The week of April 22, the team will have league prelims and their finals, so make sure to support coach Tim Lim and the outstanding Hart swim program!
