There are many amazing women to celebrate during women’s history month, though they should continue to be celebrated throughout the rest of the year as well. Hart seniors were asked to name a few of the famous women they are personally inspired by and why they are inspired by them.

Senior Amelia Hines named famous pilot Amelia Earhart, who was the first female pilot to cross the Atlantic Ocean solo. “She inspires me because she did everything that everyone told her she couldn’t; she went to school, worked in a man dominated world and flew planes at a time when it was seen as crazy for women to fly,” Hines said. Besides becoming the first woman to fly across the Atlantic solo, Earhart also was the first woman to do a nonstop transatlantic flight solo. “I’m also proud to have the same first name as her,” Hines continued.

“I’m also inspired by Joan of Arc for (kind of) the same reason, she marched to the beat of her own drum and saved millions of people and followed her heart,” Hines said.

Senior Judy Gilmore named a famous woman who is popular in the media today, especially with younger generations. “(I’m going) to have to go with Bella Hadid because of how outspoken she is about the stuff she feels is important, like social injustices around the world,” said Gilmore. Bella Hadid is a famous American model who was on Time Magazine’s 2023 list of 100 most influential people in the world. Bella Hadid is also the sister to famous supermodel, Gigi Hadid.

Gilmore replied with another famous woman from current times. “Or AOC because she seems to be the only politician actually fighting for our rights and freedom.” Alexandria Ocasia-Cortez (AOC) is an American Politician and activist who serves in the United States Congress, and is the youngest woman to ever do so.

Whether from the past or the present, women should always be remembered and celebrated for the incredible things they have accomplished. These are just a few of the many exceptional women that have graced our world.
