History Hart vs. Valencia rivalry lore

In the world of high school football, there are legendary rivalries that capture the hearts of communities and define generations. One such rivalry that remains a relative mystery to Hart students today is the battle between the Valencia High School and Hart High School football teams. Although this rivalry may be known, many don’t know the reason why it began. The rivalry carries a history of competition and passion that dates back to the 1980s.

“Back in the ’80s, the Valencia vs. Hart rivalry was intense–both schools fighting for the top spot. Winning streaks started and everyone wanted to find out who the better school was,” said Parker Maxwell, a player on the Hart football team.

The adrenaline-fueled clashes on the field, supported by spirited fans all dressed in neon, are games no one can forget. As these schools battled for the title of who had a better football team over the years, this rivalry became well-known and many became invested.

In the past two years, Hart High School football has clawed its way back to a winning streak against Valencia, winning dramatic games in overtime. These wins have been remarkable not only for their outcome but for their striking similarity – both secured in overtime and by just a single touchdown. It’s almost as if history is repeating itself through this rivalry. The 2021 and 2022 matchups between Valencia and Hart have intensely rekindled their rivalry. The games have been characterized by nail-biting suspense, unmatched drama and sheer grit on both sides. Each player’s dedication to the team and the student sections’ unwavering support has further increased game attendance. Playing Valencia is always Hart’s biggest game of the year and is always a challenge.

For the players, this rivalry is a legacy to uphold, a torch passed down through generations. 

“I don’t know how the rivalry between Valencia and Hart started, but I know it has always been an important game and it’s a game that the team looks forward to all season,” said Timmy Larkins, Hart football quarterback 

As the Valencia vs. Hart rivalry continues to evolve and handed down to generations to come, it reminds us that high school football is about more than just winning–it’s about creating lasting memories and keeping school spirit alive. 

The Valencia vs. Hart high school football rivalry may not be well-known to the American masses, but for those involved, it’s an integral piece of local sports history. As they take to the field and give it their all, the Hart players know every fan in their student section is there for the win, eagerly waiting to say “HORNS DOWN” or post “vaLencia” on their social media. The Valencia vs. Hart rivalry will always be something to look forward to, no matter if it results in a win or a loss.
