Hector Dominguez, a current senior at Hart, is the leader of the school’s audacious mural project. Standing at a gargantuan 27 feet by 10 feet across 18 panels, it is one of the biggest art projects in school history. Dominguez said that the mural is the artwork he is most proud of.

“At times it was difficult. At times we argued… a lot. But after over a year of working on the mural, I can say that it was a very rewarding experience, and I think many people will be blown away by the end product,” Dominguez said.

Dominguez has loved art since a young age. His dad is an artist, and Dominguez said that art has always been an important part of his life. He recalled that when he was four, he would draw simplistic Darth Vaders and Batmans.

His main medium remains pen on paper, though he also enjoys utilizing acrylic paint. Dominguez and his team chose acrylic for the mural on day one because of its accessibility and ease of use.

Dominguez takes inspiration from a variety of sources; for the mural, he said that Diego Rivera was his main inspiration for the design.

“I just really like looking at a lot of art,” Dominguez said.

The mural will be revealed at Open House on March 14 near the cafeteria.
