BTS’s newest album “BE” is diverse and fresh

November 19, the popular Korean boy band, BTS, released their new album Be.. The album consists of eight songs, “Life Goes On,” “Fly to My Room,” “Blue & Grey,” “Skit,” “Telepathy,” “Dis-ease,” “Stay” and “Dynamite.” “Life Goes On” and “Dynamite” having a music video release on YouTube both with over 100 million views and 5 million likes. The band has been deemed a worldwide sensation by fans and mainstream media, their Map of the Soul 7 album selling over 400,000 digital copies and 300,000 pure album sales. Their new album, Be, sold over 240,000 copies in the first month of release.

The songs in this album range from slow and heartfelt, to fun and upbeat creating a diverse discography that people of varying musical taste can enjoy. “Life Goes On” is a slow vocal-based song that tells a story as the track progresses, giving the feeling of being calm and content. On the other hand, “Dynamite” is meant to cheer people up during this rough time in quarantine with fun instrumentals that people can dance to. The album does a great job of including different songs that different people can enjoy, as well as not straying too far away from the band’s usual sound and theme.

The album is completely devoid of any collabs or features, the only vocals coming from the boys themselves. For many of the upbeat songs, a large sum of autotune is used for the voices of the vocal line, which for songs like “Dynamite” and “Telepathy” add to the disco theme, but for others, it takes away from the rawness that many of the fans enjoy. That being said, very little autotune is used for the more relaxed songs, adding to the gentle nature that they emit.

Overall, the album is fun to listen to and has a very diverse pool of songs that many people can enjoy. The instrumentals and vocals mix together very nicely and create amazing songs.  Multiple different people who listen to multiple different genres will most likely be able to find one or two songs on this album that they will enjoy and will keep listening to. 8/10
