Entertainment Weekly kicks off #UnitedAtHome

The EW Reunions series has reunited the casts of concluded shows since 2010, but with the Coronavirus pandemic, producers at Entertainment Weekly have been forced to shake up their interview format. Now, armed with the hashtag #UnitedAtHome, Entertainment Weekly has begun a segment of reunions conducted over the internet.

April 17, EW Reunions: #UnitedAtHome kicked off with a reunion of the cast of Chuck, the beloved NBC television spy action comedy that ran from 2007 to 2012. The series follows Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi) after he accidentally downloads government secrets into his brain, becoming a national security risk. When two spies are assigned to protect Chuck and exploit the knowledge in his brain, Chuck becomes the world’s most unlikely secret agent. The show’s initial run was not without conflict; the show stood on the brink of cancellation from season two onward, saved only by an extensive fan campaign and a partnership with Subway.

The Entertainment Weekly reunion showcased a table read of Chuck versus the Beard, a fan favorite from the show’s third season. The table read featured the two co-creators Josh Swartz as well as every actor from the episode (including special guests Brandon Routh, Cedric Yarbrough, and Diedrich Bader). However, a single role was left unfilled: a minor hotel attendant, played by a randomly selected fan.

The table read served to raise money for Feeding America’s COVID-19 Response Fund, a cause chosen by the cast. In the end, the table read surpassed its initial goal, raising over $77,000 as of April 28.

Entertainment Weekly has not yet revealed the reunions they have planned for the #UnitedatHome series, but with Chuck under its belt, fans are excited to see what the company has planned.
