Serena’s column: Green Day releases their fourteenth studio album, Saviors

January 19, 2024, Green Day released their 14th studio album, Saviors. In my opinion, I loved it. I think it completely captured younger Green Day and gave similar vibes to their 2016 album, Revolution Radio. Before the album release, Green Day teased the album by releasing some of the songs as singles, which is a common thing to do. “The American Dream Is Killing Me” and “Look Ma, No Brains” were my honest favorites from the songs that came out first as singles to promote the album.

The album opens with “The American Dream Is Killing Me” and I believe this was a great song to start the album with. It gives a good overview of the entirety of the album’s vibe and is simply a great song in general. Saviors is very pop-punk/pop-rock so if anyone reads this who enjoys that genre, or if you’re a Green Day fan like I am, I highly recommend giving Saviors a listen!

My overall favorite tracks were “Living in the ‘20s,” “Suzie Chapstick,” and “Corvette Summer.” These tracks came out on top for me overall because the song “Living in the ‘20s” has such a classic pop-punk sort of vibe which I absolutely love so it really gave me some nostalgia of songs I’m already listening to by separate bands like Sum 41 and Good Charlotte.

Growing up on Green Day and being incredibly familiar with their big hits like “American Idiot,” “21st Century Breakdown” and “Nimrod,” I would say this album lives up to those standards. It’s new while still giving the same sound of classic Green Day vibes that I would overall say gives Saviors 5/5 stars from me.
