A dance team win with the success of their petition

With Los Angeles County numbers starting to decrease for the first time in months, California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) started allowing students to begin sports practices in person as long as they followed the COVID-19 guidelines. With Santa Clarita dance teams not considered being part of CIF, they had to continue their practices online. This sparked quite the controversy with dancers in the valley and caused the creation of the Let SCV High School Dance Teams Practice Under CIF Safety Guidelines petition.

“Just because we are not under CIF does not mean we are any less competitive. If dance teams expect to compete, we must have time to learn choreography, practice, and clean our dances before January, the start of the competition season,” said senior Shine Lim from Valencia High School.

After gaining 1,005 signatures, the Hart district approved dance teams to practice in person.

“Thank you so much for all your support in helping SCV high school dance teams to begin practicing under CIF guidelines! With your support, the Hart district has officially given us permission to practice on campus!” said Lim.
