As of March 26, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) confirmed 3,801 cases of COVID-19 and 78 deaths, with about a third of the positive cases ranging from ages 18 to 49. According to The Signal, health officials have confirmed 22 positive cases within Santa Clarita. Henry Mayo Hospital has conducted over 170 tests; however, only 95 have returned. 

Governor Newsom’s mandatory stay-at-home policy is still in effect as the number of COVID-19 cases continues to surge. Even though people continue to work from home, officials state that it’s okay for individuals to participate in outdoor activities, such as hiking, in order to stay in good health as long as proper safety measures are observed. However, as more and more people began using the trails and participating in outdoor activities, Los Angeles County decided to close these spots until April 19 due to overcrowding. Park amenities, beaches, piers, beach bike paths, beach access points and campgrounds are also included in this measure and therefore are also closed until April 19. 

Closed trails in Santa Clarita include East & Rice Canyon, Ed Davis Park in Towsley Canyon, the Michael D. Antonovich Open Space, Newhall Pass Trailhead, Pico Canyon, Santa Clarita Woodlands Park, Mentryville and Whitney Canyon Park.
