Biden and Trump gear up for November election

As of April 6, 2024, Joe Biden remains in the lead of the presidential election with a total of 3,045 delegates and Donald Trump with 1,863 delegates. Other candidates such as Nikki Haley of the Republican party as well as Dean Phillips of the Democratic party have dropped out of the Presidential race. This officially leaves Biden and Trump to their rematch for the position of President after their initial battle in 2020.

Biden has made a proposal for the reduction of student debts through a student loan relief plan. He discussed this matter in Madison, Wisconsin on April 8 where the administration approved $146 billion of loan forgiveness for more than 4 million public servants.

“Today, too many Americans, especially young people, are saddled with unsustainable debts in exchange for [a] college degree,” Biden said.  “The ability for working- and middle-class folks to repay their student loans has become so burdensome that a lot can’t repay it for even decades after being in school.”

Alternatively, Republicans have declared Biden’s proposal as financially irresponsible.

“President Biden will use every tool available to cancel student loan debt for as many borrowers as possible, no matter how many times Republican elected officials try to stand in his way,” said Karine Jean-Pierre, a White House press secretary.

Thursday April 4, Trump has declared his position on the national abortion ban during a rally in Green Bay, Wisconsin after previously remaining silent on the matter. He suggested that each state should be responsible for its own political stance on abortion and have their own abortion laws, which would be the alternative to the national law.

“My view is now that we have abortion where everybody wanted it from a legal standpoint, the states will determine by vote or legislation or perhaps both, and whatever they decide must be the law of the land. In this case, the law of the state,” Trump said.
