Following the Afghanistan Earthquake on Oct 26, the UNDP, or the United Nations Development Program, has appealed for $25 million to support key points for the recovery plan.
The UNDP appeal is a small part of the larger Herat Earthquake Response Plan, or H.E.R.P. for short. The total amount required for their plan is approximately $93.6 million to help the 114,000 people affected by the earthquake.
“The situation on the ground is desperate and winter is fast approaching. Our goal is to help these communities restore basic infrastructure, especially shelter, and return to normalcy as quickly as possible. We’ve repurposed some of our existing resources so we can start moving quickly, but these resources are just not enough,” said UNDP Resident Representative in Afghanistan Stephen Rodriques, stating the urgency of recovery.
