Cross Country Lives to Run and Runs to Live

The boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams raced in the Foothill League finals on October 28, 2023, at Central Park. This race determined which top four teams of the league would be able to move on to the CIF-SS prelims race. The team placed first in the boys’ varsity race and finished in third place in the girls’ varsity. Both the boys and girls qualified for the CIF-SS prelims race that will be held on November 10, 2023, at Mt. Sac Community College.

The Foothill League is a highly competitive field meaning in every race there will be competition for all racers. Eli Ahten, a junior at Hart High led an outstanding race with his teammate Nicolas Zamora, a sophomore who continuously battled with Sebastian Peraza, a junior at Saugus High. Hart finished just seconds behind Peraza finishing in second and third. Although their outstanding performance led their team to victory finishing with a team score of 38 points. Michaela Okuyama, a senior at Hart High had an amazing race finishing in 11th place and contributing heavily to her team score. The girls’ varsity team finished with a team score of 101 which put them in third place allowing them to move on to CIF-SS.

If the team performs in the top four in their heat for the CIF-SS prelims they will be able to move on to CIF-SS finals held on November 18, 2023, at Mt. Sac Community College.
