Hart Cross Country sprints into their season

As fall approaches, the cross country season starts to heat up. With incredible competition from all over the state and within the local league, this promising year will be a testament to the long, grueling hours of training the athletes have put in.

The Hart boys’ team finishing second in league last year has inspired the entire team to push their limits this year. These athletes have been putting in the hard work during the off season, logging endless miles to perfect their endurance and sharpen their speed.

“We’re hoping the strength in our small numbers overcomes the problem of not having a large team this year. We’re going to come through for each other and hopefully make it to CIF prelims,” said senior varsity runner Michaela Okuyama.

The cross country team not only strives to pummel their competition, but also focuses on the personal growth and companionship of athletes. Members learn valuable life lessons about discipline and tenacity as they make their way through hilly and bumpy terrain, facing strong-willed competitors.

“Our advantage this year is we have a lot more experienced runners and a bigger incoming freshman class”, said sophomore runner Nicolas Zamora.

As the high school cycle runs, graduated, highly-ranked veterans are quickly replaced by fresh faces. These new additions add an element of surprise and keep us wondering: who will be the next rising star?

The countdown to one of the largest and most competitive meets in the nation has begun. Woodbridge Cross Country Invitational will be held September 15. This meet provides a range of races that cater to all high school levels. This meet provides an electric atmosphere for runners: it not only challenges athletes but provides an incredible opportunity for them to showcase their hard work, and it can significantly impact their running career.

As grit fills their hearts and they lace their running flats up tight, these determined athletes are bound to make the upcoming season one to remember.
