In 1947, two people named Vincent DePhilippi and Madeline Manfredi moved to the sunny city of San Diego to establish their own Italian market under the name “Cash & Carry Italian Foods,” which would soon develop into what is today called Filippi’s Pizza Grotto. This Italian restaurant would later house some of the finest Italian delectables in San Diego, and grow into a state-wide phenomenon. There is no doubt that all it takes for an establishment to flourish greatly, is a little love and passion for what you do. For nearly 73 years, the DePhillips family has been demonstrating what classic Italian cuisine is. 

If you come to the pizza grotto in search of food other than pizza, then you’re in luck, as there are plenty of other dishes to enjoy. Many of which include a wide variety of sandwiches, salads, beer, wine, spaghetti and more. At Filippi’s Pizza Grotto, families are more than welcome to bring the children along, since there are already menus geared towards kids under the age of 12. Parties of up to 10 are also welcome to the restaurant. If you aren’t up for traveling long distances, there are 14 more locations scattered throughout San Diego county (Not including the one in Little Italy, San Diego). 

Filippi’s Pizza Grotto is a great example of family friendly restaurants. Not to mention that the restaurant was also started by a small family itself in 1950. With an extremely accessible menu available through the official Filippi’s Pizza Grotto website, displaying all menus available in different locations, many people flock to the restaurant in search of their delicious Italian foods.
