Main Street is and has been an important part of our community and in my 17 years of living here I’ve seen it change from a place of small business to a buzzing area of town.
My thoughts revolve more around what used to be. I’m not saying the new businesses are bad, if anything it gave main street a resurgence in activity, making it a good part of town to go out and relax, especially with the lights being up year round.
As I walk down Main Street my mind tends to wander to places I used to know. There was this super market called Tresierras and it used to be where Mac’s Pool and Spa Supply is now. Whenever I find myself there I recall the days when I was in elementary school going for groceries. It’s been years since then and it puts into perspective how much time really has passed.
There used to be a hair salon next to Rocket Fizz that everyone in my community would go to and due to the newer places being more “tasteful” catering to the new residents of the apartment complex, it raised the rent of that area making them move. I went to the new location recently and they continue to have business, but whenever I walk by Rocket Fizz it feels off not seeing the salon there.
The biggest change of all, is that I can no longer recall what it was like before. My memories are hazy but I remember that one of those areas before construction was an empty lot and now those two buildings are the symbol of Main Street.
Overall, these changes are good, but to me it’s like a part of my childhood is gone and soon will only be a distant memory. Main street is more than just a place, it’s a home to many of our community’s memories.
