Fireworks over Lake Tahoe with Fourth of July celebrations planned across Northern Nevada

RENO, NV — Communities across Northern Nevada, Lake Tahoe and nearby California towns are lining up fireworks, parades and family events for the July 4 holiday weekend. Many of the celebrations are tied to America’s 250th birthday, with organizers planning public gatherings through July 5.

Officials are also reminding residents that fireworks are illegal in Washoe County and much of the Lake Tahoe Basin, with organized public displays encouraged instead. Pyramid Lake is the exception, where fireworks are allowed only in designated areas with a valid permit.

Reno and Sparks plan major July 4 events

Reno’s official parade, the 4th on Fourth, starts at 10 a.m. Saturday on Fourth Street and will include more than 70 entries between Washington and West streets. The city says road closures will affect the area through the morning and early afternoon.

Later in the day, Greater Nevada Field will host America 250 activities, a California Collegiate League All-Star Game at 6:35 p.m. and fireworks after the game. At Mackay Stadium, Red, White and Flight will feature a free drone show, the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra and an interactive expo after sunset.

In Sparks, the Nugget Casino Resort’s Star Spangled Sparks celebration at Victorian Square is scheduled from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. with fireworks around 9:30 p.m., weather permitting. Organizers expect about 50,000 people and are urging guests to use transit because of limited parking.

Lake Tahoe communities set shoreline fireworks and family programming

South Lake Tahoe’s parade begins at 9 a.m. Friday and travels westbound on Highway 50 from Ski Run Boulevard. That night, Lights on the Lake is set to launch from barges at 9:45 p.m. and will be synchronized to patriotic music.

Tahoe City’s 78th annual fireworks display is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. Saturday from a barge off Commons Beach, with shuttle service planned from Olympic Valley, West Shore and Northstar. Nearby viewing areas include Commons Beach, the Lakeside Trail and several public beaches.

Incline Village and Crystal Bay will stage a Friday flag-raising, pancake breakfast, parade and community fair, followed by a Saturday fireworks display over Lake Tahoe. The area’s events also include a free barbecue at Ski Beach and a veterans club breakfast at Aspen Grove.

Carson City, Fallon, Fernley and Virginia City add hometown traditions

Carson City’s weekend lineup includes the Nevada State Railroad Museum’s Star Spangled Steam-Up, the Freedom Cruise 250 procession, a soapbox derby and public fireworks viewing areas. The Nevada State Museum is also marking America 250 with a patriotic exhibit featuring an 1878 American Eagle artwork from the original Carson City Federal Mint.

In Fallon, the day starts with a 10 a.m. parade, then continues with Party in the Park, live music, games and fireworks at dusk from Rattlesnake Hill. Fernley is planning a pancake breakfast, a Main Street parade, a classic car show and a dusk fireworks display at Out of Town Park.

Virginia City’s Fourth of July Extravaganza begins at noon with a parade down C Street, followed by family activities, live entertainment and fireworks at dusk. Several museums and venues in town are also offering ticketed fireworks viewing events.

Graeagle and Genoa extend celebrations through the holiday weekend

Graeagle’s three-day Independence Day Celebration runs July 3-5 with Family Day in the Park, Civil War reenactments, Nevada Gun Fighters performances, live music and fireworks over the Mill Pond at dusk. Sunday’s schedule includes a pancake breakfast, parade and more music in town.

In Genoa, the American Celebration at Mormon Station State Historic Park is free and includes a children’s and pet parade, live music, family activities and a U.S. Marine Corps color guard presentation. Food sales, free museum admission and other events will continue throughout the afternoon.
