NORTH CONSTANTIA, CA — A deadly head-on collision on Highway 395 left one person dead and five others with major injuries after a van crossed into the oncoming lane and struck a pickup near Hall Road.
The California Highway Patrol says it is still investigating the crash, which happened in the North Constantia area.
Van crossed into southbound lane before striking pickup
According to CHP, a 2025 Chrysler van was traveling north on Highway 395 when it moved into the southbound lane north of Hall Road.
There, it hit a red 2014 Toyota pickup head-on. After the impact, both vehicles came to rest on the southbound shoulder of the highway.
Passenger from Sun Valley, Nevada, died at the scene
One passenger in the Chrysler, a 39-year-old man from Sun Valley, Nevada, died from injuries sustained in the collision.
The driver of the Chrysler, the driver of the Toyota, and three other passengers inside the Chrysler were taken to Renown Regional Medical Center with major injuries.
Witnesses asked to contact CHP investigators
The CHP says the case remains under investigation and is seeking help from anyone who saw the crash or noticed either vehicle on the road beforehand.

Fire crews, deputies and road workers assisted at the scene
The Susanville Office of the California Highway Patrol thanked several agencies and bystanders for helping at the crash site.
Those acknowledged included the Doyle Fire Department, SAID Fire, REMSA, the Lassen County Sheriff’s Department, Caltrans, and good Samaritans who responded at the scene.
