FRESNO, CA — A man died after a single-car crash in Fresno County early Friday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officials said a caller reported a flipped vehicle in a field near Clovis and Jefferson avenues around 3:30 a.m. with an unresponsive man inside.

CHP says Honda drifted off Clovis Road before striking a pole

Investigators said the driver was heading south on Clovis Road in a Honda when the vehicle left the roadway, hit a pole and came to rest in a vineyard.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say he was not wearing a seatbelt

CHP said the man was not restrained at the time of the crash.

That detail is part of the ongoing investigation into how the wreck unfolded and what led to the vehicle leaving the road.

Drug and alcohol factors remain under investigation

Officers have not said whether drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash.
