ROCHESTER, NY — Toronto Blue Jays infielder Ernie Clement, a Rochester native, is teaming up with Brewery Ommegang on a new beer called Upstate Hustle. A portion of sales from the craft lager will benefit Challenger Miracle Field of Greater Rochester.
The nonprofit offers barrier-free access to inclusive sports for people with developmental, physical or intellectual disabilities.
Clement says the beer is rooted in Rochester pride
Clement said the project reflects the support he received while growing up in Rochester and playing baseball in western New York.
He said the collaboration gives him a way to give back to the community that helped shape his career while supporting the work done by Challenger Miracle Field.
What is in Upstate Hustle and where it will be sold
Upstate Hustle is brewed with Nectaron, NY Excelsior and NY Centennial hops. Brewery Ommegang says the lager has a light cracker malt note and mellow hop fruitiness.
The beer is listed at 4.2% ABV and will be sold in Rochester, Cooperstown, Syracuse and Buffalo.
Brewery Ommegang highlights the New York focus of the project
Randy Scroger, Brewery Ommegang’s national accounts director, said Clement’s baseball background and upstate roots fit the brewery’s goal of making beer for New York.
He said the partnership also helps support the community through Challenger Miracle Field.
