Men and Women Use Same Ball At US Open

The U.S. Open, a popular tennis championship, is a hardcourt tennis tournament held annually in Queens, New York. This year, for the first time in tennis history, both men and women will use the same ball and play the tournament with the same ball. This change was prompted by the complaints made by women about the 2022 US Open, saying that the products they were using were inferior to that that the men used. About 10,000 tennis balls are used every year at the US Open throughout the whole tournament. Men in the US Open regularly used Extra-Duty balls, whereas women used the Regular-Duty balls. Towards the end of the 2022 season, many women approached the organization and asked to use the same ball.

During a news conference at Arthur Ashe Stadium, the decision was made following the 2022 tournament feedback from players. This change marks the continuous change in sports, with more light being shed on the need to clarify differences between men and women in the same sports.
