Hart Soccer dominates Valencia

There is no doubt that Hart High School’s best sport is soccer. Record shows that both the Hart girls and boys varsity teams have done tremendously well in the past years. Including the boys winning their sixth Foothill League Championship in 2023 after winning 5-0 against Castaic with goals scored by Hart seniors Andy Juarez, Noah Morgan, Trenton Rickard and Marcos Flores with two goals.

“I definitely do want to do my part, but it’s a team sport, and if someone else does it, it’s great,” Rickard said. “Really what matters is the result. It doesn’t matter who’s doing it, but it’s my role as a striker to try to score.”

Now with the Hart boys varsity team winning league they have to be prepared for CIF to play other teams outside of the Santa Clarita Valley.

“Right now my goal is to continue — even though we won league — continue winning all our games so we get a higher seed,” Head Coach Salinas said. “In CIF, it’s a different world. So, we’re hoping that we can make it far. I think we have the group of boys that believe in the same common goal, and I think it could happen. But again, just take it one game at a time.”

Not only have the boys won the Foothill League, the varsity girls are on their way to winning another undefeated league title.

Hart Indians girl’s soccer wore down the heavily defensive Valencia Vikings team in a league match at Hart.

The Indians were only up one goal at the half but two late goals helped the squad pull away and win, 3-0.

The Indians had senior Alexis Nguyen get the scoring started yet again. The San Diego commit dribbled around multiple Vikings and found Madelynn Bello for a clear shot on target. Bello’s shot was saved by Valencia goalkeeper Haley Bench but the deflection was drilled into the back of the net by Junior Natalie Mejia.

The Vikings (1-7-1, 1-4-1) were in the game until the 65-minute mark, where Hart Indian senior Briley Phelps drilled a penalty kick to go up, 2-0.

Minutes later, Phelps would ice the game after Hart moved the ball across the pitch into the Viking territory. Junior Ayla Noble sent in a cross to midfielder Ariana Salvador. The midfielder had a shot but let the ball roll between her legs to a wide-open Phelps for the final goal of the game.
