Cross country season here at Hart began September 8. Hart frosh soph placed second and varsity came in fifth at the Cool Breeze Invitational which took place September 7. Some of the top runners include Jeremiah Rasmussen, David Flores, Joseph Ahart, Jaden Wiley and Moises Cantu.
“Going to practice is great everyday because we know we have guys working hard towards their goals and I also like how were close during and outside of practice and this definitely will help the teams future,” said Flores, a senior on the varsity team.
The team also has many traditions, some of which include “kidnapping” the freshmen. Another tradition is called “pasta feeds” where a runner would host a pasta based dinner for the whole team the night before a meet in order to have plenty of carbs to burn the next day.
“Our frosh team has potential to become the best in the league, but our varsity team is low on numbers so it will be hard to win league along with CIF,” Flores said.
“I’m doing pretty well especially on Saturday, 16 minutes on a 5K. I did have some injuries, but that’s only because my size is small so I’m prone to it,” said Wiley, a freshman on the team.
“Practices almost feel like an individual thing, but when it comes to meets we try to work together,” Flores said.
The team competed in the Ojai Invitational that took place September 15 at Lake Casitas. Hart then came in fourteenth place in the Men’s Three Miles Open Division and ninth in the women’s division. The team also competed in the Raider Invitational September 21 and in their first Foothill League September 27 at Central Park.
Hart will compete in their second Foothill League at Central Park October 11.
