Hart Drumline performed at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, CA for Southern California Percussion Alliance (SCPA) finals April 14.
To qualify for finals, Hart Drumline competed in prelims April 7 at Coussoulis Arena in San Bernardino, CA. In SCPA prelims, drumline competed in the Open division, a highly competitive division with some of the best drumlines in Southern California and across the country. Earning a score of 87.325, Hart Drumline place fourth and advanced to finals the following week.
After hours of spent practicing and rehearsing in order to prepare for finals, the Hart Drumline successfully performed their show and placed eighth out of thirteen drumlines with a score of 86.64.
Andrew Rodriguez, a senior and member of Hart Drumline, is a first year participant of the program. Originally a clarinet player, Rodriguez transitioned to cymbals during second semester because he was eager to try something new involving music.
“Cymbals taught me that every part of the ensemble is important and even though the cymbals didn’t have any crucial part in music, we are there for visual effect, which impacts our score,” said Rodriguez.
