The first half of the 2017 College Football Season has been filled with controversy. This season has seen many close games along with several upsets. It seems as if this year, controversy will yet again persist when it comes to the College Football Playoff because of how many solid teams there are.

This season has been jam-packed with major upsets. Troy, a team from the Sun Belt Conference, beat a solid Louisiana State University team. This would be shocking because teams from the Southeastern Conference like LSU rarely lose to smaller football schools like Troy. Also, Howard, a 45.5 point underdog, defeated University of Nevada, Las Vegas. During this game, Howard accomplished the biggest point-spread upset in the history of college football. With the way the season has been going, expect more large upsets this season.

The Group of Five teams are teams from conferences that are weaker. The highest-rated group of five team that won their conference will get to play in a New Year’s Six bowl. University of Central Florida is currently the only team from a group of five conference that is ranked therefore, if they ended up winning their conference, they would make it to a New Year’s Six bowl.

For the College Football Playoff, the top four teams, as ranked by the committee, will battle head-to-head to see who will make the championship game. If the season ended today, Georgia, Alabama, Notre Dame, and Clemson would make the four team playoff respectively. Close behind with one loss are Oklahoma and Ohio State. Georgia, the top rated team in the country, has a strong case to be the favorites in the College Football Playoff. Alabama has playoff experience winning four championships in since 2009. Notre Dame has bounced back from a tough year last season, only losing to top ranked Georgia. Topping out the four team playoff is last years national champions, an always loaded Clemson team.

The number one seed versus the number four seed game will be Georgia against Clemson. Although Clemson’s explosive offense will keep the Tigers close, Georgia will continue their magical season defeating Clemson with their well rounded roster. The two verses three game will be a rematch of the 2012 National Championship game where Alabama won. Notre Dame will get even with them earning a trip to the Championship Game. This final will be a rematch from one of the most thrilling games of the year. Georgia edged out Notre Dame late in the game to get a big time win. Expect this one to be similar, a back and forth game. Notre Dame will ultimately be the 2017 National Champions because their drive to redeem themselves.
